Loan to Ülke Bisküvi from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
Ülker Bisküvi renewed its loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) amounting to EUR 75 million, which expired in April 2023. The new agreement is the first sustainability-linked loan agreement between Ülker Bisküvi and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ülker Bisküvi CEO Mete Buyurgan said: “I would like to thank the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for their trust in us and our country in this sensitive period. We give importance to this loan as is related to sustainability; since our establishment, we have been carrying out our activities with the "zeo waste company" model, keeping our sustainability efforts at the center of our business. While we are growing without an increase in carbon emissions, we produce projects in line with our goals, especially in water and energy efficiency, reducing waste, protecting food, human resources, sustainable raw material supply and production quality.
Emphasizing the EBRD's focus on sustainability, EBRD Agricultural Industry Sector Team Director Natalya Zhukova said: “Sustainability should be at the center of all sectors. At the EBRD, we are ready to support all companies pursuing greener goals. Ülker is one of the important companies of the food industry and we believe that this loan will be effective in further strengthening the sustainability references of the company. We aim for this collaboration to set an example for all industry players and to create a transformative impact across the industry.”
